The Weight of Grief: My Story

Hi! I’m Jacqueline Denise Shumpert, a wife, mother, and woman of faith, born and raised in Tupelo, MS. My husband, Donald R. Shumpert, and I have been blessed with four children—though one now rests in eternity. On February 3, 2020, our world shattered when our son, Preston R. Dozier II, was taken from us in a tragic car accident. Just nine months later, on November 13, 2020, I lost my father, the late Willie L. Clark, to esophageal cancer.

The weight of grief was overwhelming—filled with anxiety, pain, and moments of complete brokenness. I had sleepless nights, days clouded with guilt and shame, and endless questions of why? and what if? that left my heart aching in ways I never imagined. There were moments when I felt helpless, but never hopeless.

"It was in that darkness that I made a choice—a choice to take the Journey From Grief to Grace. To trust God, even when the path ahead seemed uncertain."

A Journey of
Grace and Healing

Grief has no rhythm or rhyme; some days, it crashes down like a thunderbolt, unexpected and consuming. Other days, it lingers like a whisper, soft yet ever-present. But through it all, I’ve learned that God’s grace is greater than any sorrow, and His love is the anchor that keeps me steady.

Now, I walk this journey not just for myself, but for others who are navigating the storm of grief. My journal, Journey from Grief to Grace, and all my work in this space are dedicated to the memory of my son, Preston, and my father, Willie L. Clark.

My prayer for you is that, no matter where you are in your journey, you find the courage to take the next step. You don’t have to walk alone—God is with you, and so am I.
